Stucco

Stucco is a cement-based coating, typically made of cement, sand, water, and lime, applied over metal lath (mesh) to exterior walls, then textured finish applied. Projects that typically include stucco are exterior walls (residential and commercial), outdoor kitchens, outdoor fireplaces, and/or outdoor entertainment areas.

Contrary to popular belief, stucco is a great material that can be used in any climate, not just hot dry. It aids in keeping the home insulated and resists fire better than wood siding. Not only that, it resists mold, rot, and termite because it is a seamless application. Traditional stucco can last 50-80 years with proper maintenance.

There are several finishes to choose from with stucco – the following are common finishes.

  • Sand Finish – A grainy textured look due to large amounts of sand in the mix ratio
  • Laced Finish – Also known as Spanish-Lace or Skip-Trowel
  • Smooth Finish – Smooth and level
  • Mission Finish – Also known as “Santa Barbara” is left in its natural form and unpainted
